Good news about diving regulations in Spain FacebookTwitterYouTubeScubaEarthPADI Blog

PADI has been working in Spain for many years to help its members develop their professional activities.

Since 2010 we have been working to address the requirement for PADI members to hold the “Técnico Deportivo” credential in order to be authorized to work. Increasingly, the autonomous communities within Spain have begun to accept the certifications recognized by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), such as PADI certifications, as being sufficient qualifications for instructors to work in recreational dive centers in place of the Tecnico Deportivo. An example of this is the publication in 2012 of the Order of Murcia and the Decree of the Balearic Islands in March 2014, both of which removed the requirement for PADI Instructors to hold this credential and simplified their working conditions. At the time, FEDAS (Spanish Federation of Underwater Activities) appealed against these regulations.

We are happy to announce that on 20th October 2014, the Administrative Disputes Division of the High Court of Justice of Murcia dismissed the appeal that FEDAS made against the order of 6th August 2012. This means that we can continue to work in Murcia and the Balearic Islands with our PADI certifications without needing to hold the “Tecnico Deportivo” credential.

We hope that in the very near future we can announce additional new regulations that will further simplify the way our members can carry out their professional activities.
